How to Set and Keep New Year’s Resolutions

Do you have any resolutions for 2018? If you do, you should probably be aware that more than a half of all people who make resolutions rarely follow through with them. But you don’t have to fall under this category; our Pittsburgh Limo Service has come up with a few strategies that will guarantee that you stick to your resolutions throughout the year and possibly even surpass your own expectations. Have a look.

Create a Realistic Plan

Reflect on the goals you want to achieve and how you can make them come to fruition. For example, if you plan on losing 40 pounds, a great approach would be to spread out the weight you want to lose over a couple of months rather than starving yourself half to death in January alone. You could decide that you will lose at least 10 pounds every month until you get rid of all 40 pounds. Such a plan is more realistic and achievable, especially because it minimizes the risk of disappointment and demoralization if you are unable to reach your goal immediately. We are not saying that you can’t be ambitious, but you also need to keep a realistic mindset; a realistic mindset will lead you to consistent and unrelenting progress.

Share your Resolutions

We are more likely to stick to our commitments if they are also important to other people and not just ourselves. This is the same principle that will drive a person with kids to work 18 hours a day, every day of the week while another person without kids may be inclined to have a more relaxed work ethic. When you share your resolutions with someone important in your life, you will feel accountable to them as well, your mind will tell you that their well-being is at stake as well, and this will push you to stick it out. Choose to share your resolutions with someone who’s close to your heart, for example, a parent, a best friend, a girlfriend/boyfriend etc. and you will increase your chances for keeping up with this year’s resolutions.

Reward Yourself

Planning to reward yourself for every milestone you hit increases your chances for success. For example, let’s assume one of your resolutions is to read at least one book every week and you have read four, one for each week throughout the month of January, you could reward yourself going out to the movies. Simple rewards will motivate you to stick to the plan because you will subconsciously be looking forward to that well-deserved prize at the end of the tunnel.

Write them Down

Putting your resolutions down in writing serves as a constant reminder of all the goals you have. You could either write down you resolutions in your journal, mobile device, computer, or on sticky notes around your house. Just make sure that you are constantly coming across these little reminders throughout the day to keep your mind in the game.
